由小熊對戰道奇的國聯冠軍戰第6戰，站在懸崖邊上的道奇，此役派出王牌Clayton Kershaw掛帥主投，但他這一場不若第2戰來的威風，5局就被敲了7支安打，包括5支造成重傷害的長打，也導致道奇上半場打完以0：5落後。
Kershaw在上一次對上小熊取得如夢似幻的勝利，不過此時小熊以非彼時小熊，打線早已全面復甦，首棒Dexter Fowler一開始就敲出二壘安打站上得點圈，接著Kris Bryant也跟著補上1支安打送回跑者，幫助球隊先馳得點。下一棒的Anthony Rizzo揮出左外野飛球，但道奇外野手Andrew Toles卻發生接球失誤，導致跑者站上二、三壘，Ben Zobrist再適時敲出中外野高飛犧牲打，小熊首局就以2：0領先。
2局下，該局首位打者Addison Russell又一上來就出二壘安打，雖然Kershaw順利的解決下來接下來2棒的打者，不過面對Fowler又被他敲出本場的第2支安打，讓雙方分差擴大為3分。在接下來2局，Willson Contreras和Rizzo各補上1發陽春彈，將雙方比數拉開到5：0。
